Sarasota's community radio station WSLR-Fogartyville shared plans to present County Commission, State Attorney and City candidates through livestreaming and on their Youtube channel:
WSLR will be doing our best to cover local elections. We are working on our plan to make sure we provide information on all of the local races via our Broadcast programming, our print edition of the Critical Times (coming out in October), on our website and through livestreaming/social media.
Currently we have the following livestreamed interviews planned on The Detail which airs on Thursdays at 9 am and re-airs on Saturdays at 9 am:
September 17: County Commission District 1 - Mark Pienkos (left) has confirmed, haven't heard back from Mike Moran.
September 24th: County Commission District 5: Alice White (confirmed) and Ron Cutsinger (waiting for reply)
October 1st: City Commission: Kyle Scott Battie & Willie Shaw (not confirmed)
October 8th: Rerun City Commission - Liz Alpert and Terry Turner
October 15th: State Attorney Betsy Young and Ed Brodsky
Note: Brodsky did not show up - first 28 minutes is an interview with Betsy Young.
At min. 28 Cathy talks with Tim Fanning of the Herald Tribune about his breaking story regarding Mike Moran's potential conflicts of interest.
October 22nd - Charter Review Board and Ballot Initiatives with Lourdes Ramirez (may pre-record)
These programs will be live-streamed on our Facebook and YouTube Channels and then archived on the elections page.
We are also co-sponsoring a City Commission Forum with the Rosemary District Association on September 23rd. This will also be livestreamed.
Apart from that, we will be doing interviews for the local news broadcast and inviting Florida House and Senate candidates on some of our other local public affairs shows.
Citizens for District Power urges all area media to step up during this important election. Cover the Candidates and the complex issues facing us, and hold debates and forums. If you haven't signed our petition, please do!
