LTE: Once-beautiful city crowded, overbuilt

Updated: Jan 14, 2022

Letters to the Editor - Herald Tribune, Jan. 10, 2022

Rendering: hotel approved by the County Commission at Stickney Point and Peacock Rd.

I have lived in Sarasota since 1967 and the once quiet, unpopulated and gorgeous area has had many new “face-lifts” since I arrived.

Many of the changes have been very positive for our growth. But what is being done today to our once-beautiful city is a travesty. There is such a term as overbuilding. Just look at Miami, Fort Lauderdale, etc.

We the taxpaying citizens are asked to endure overbuilding that has and will continue to create unrest. These are our communities and our neighborhoods, yet we have very little input on the increase in building.

I am appalled at the decision that was made Jan. 4 regarding the future of Siesta Key (“Siesta Key incorporation dies,” Jan. 5). Those politicians are our employees. What is going on?

There has to be a better way; we can no longer keep increasing our population in Sarasota without improving the roads, bridges, etc.
