Video: Who's behind the money buying votes in Sarasota Special Election?

On February 25, 2022, Sarasota citizen advocate Cathy Antunes offered the result of an investigation into the PAC funding fueling election messaging in the Special Election of March 8, 2022.

The special election concerns the attempt of the Board - who owe their political careers to wealthy developers - to overturn a citizen-initiated Charter Amendment that restructured county commission elections.

The citizens chose single member district voting in 2018 as a means of countering what they saw as excessive developer influence over our elections.

Antunes' investigation of PAC funding revealed - would you believe - excessive developer influence in the messaging surrounding this Special Election. One PAC in a chain of PACs that feed the marketing, advertising and messaging shows a deposit of $750,000 from one developer - Pat Neal. The thrust of the messaging he's allegedly paying for is to persuade Sarasota citizens to vote against the very power they won for themselves in 2018.

Clearly, It's worth a lot of money to Pat Neal and other developers to overturn the will of the people of Sarasota County.

In this special election, Vote NO to retain your citizen power through Single Member District Voting.
